Mt Tarawera, for your party alone

This is a full private day journey from Auckland, built around exclusive and private guided access to Mt Tarawera.

Mt Tarawera, a sacred maunga (mountain) of Ngāti Rangitihi, is accessed through an exclusive arrangement with Kaitiaki Adventures, the operational guardians for the site. Your party has the mountain entirely to itself for the duration of your visit. No shared vehicle. No shared guide. No strangers joining the day.

The travel, timing, pace, and geothermal finish are arranged around you, so the experience is complete from departure to return.

The mountain and the pool are not two separate experiences bolted together. They are the same force, one raw, one quiet, experienced in a single day.

Exclusive private access to a mountain closed to the public

Sacred ground. Living history. Your party only.

Mt Tarawera is not a public walking track. Access to this sacred volcanic landscape is limited, guided, and deeply connected to Ngāti Rangitihi, who carry the responsibility of protecting the maunga and sharing its legacy with visitors.

Your party steps onto the mountain through an exclusive private guided experience arranged for you alone, trekking across terrain shaped by the 1886 eruption that destroyed the Pink and White Terraces and gave birth to the Waimangu Valley. Your guide weaves cultural storytelling with volcanic history, connecting you to both the land and the people of this region.

From the ridgeline, 360-degree views open across Rotorua, the lakes, and toward the Bay of Plenty. For those who want it, the crater itself offers a steep and exhilarating descent. Because the day is entirely private, that choice belongs to your party alone, on the day, at your pace.

This is more than a hike. It is an immersion into te ao Māori, where history, spirituality, and adventure come together, with the mountain held for your party in that time.

Private geothermal stillness at Polynesian Spa

Rachel Spring mineral water. Lake views. Your party only.

After Mt Tarawera, the day shifts from volcanic force to mineral-rich stillness.

At Polynesian Spa, your party has a private Lake View Pool for 45 minutes, filled with Rachel Spring alkaline mineral water and overlooking Lake Rotorua and Sulphur Bay.

The day begins with exclusive private guided access to Mt Tarawera. It ends in private geothermal water, shaped by the same forces beneath Rotorua.
